Still Singing for our Lives June 2017
“I am out to sing songs that will prove to you that this is your world. And if it has hit you pretty hard and knocked you for a dozen loops, no matter what color, what size you are or how you are built, I am out to sing the songs that make you take pride in yourself and in your work, to have the right to speak out your mind, to have a right to speak up, to think about how to make this old world a little bit better place to live in.” Woody Guthrie
These words from the 1940’s, are as true now as they ever were. And even though we’ve never said it out loud, this fervent affirmation is at the bottom of every one of our concerts. In bringing audience and singers together, it is always our intention to make music with each other that creates a sacred space, a place where melody, harmony and message collide to manifest song and bring us together as a community. We do this every Monday night when we rehearse, and again, when we sing with you.
The ‘still’ of our title harkens back to Woody, making clear that there is still a need for all our voices, singing and speaking out. And with all that work, we still need a place to celebrate, reflect, to dream, to lean on each other and to walk with grace.
